How does the movie picker wheel work?
The wheel arrives pre-stocked with eight titles from the Trending Now list: Oppenheimer, Barbie, Dune: Part Two, Poor Things, The Holdovers, Killers of the Flower Moon, The Fall Guy and Civil War. Every title gets a slice of identical width, so on an eight-title wheel each film has a flat 1-in-8 chance wherever it sits. Press SPIN and the wheel slows to a stop over 3 to 8 seconds, depending on where you leave the Spin Duration slider (5 seconds by default). The result card then shows the winner with its release year, genre and star rating out of 10, plus Let's Watch, Watch Trailer, which opens a YouTube trailer search in a new tab, and Pick Another to re-spin.
Can I filter movies by streaming service?
Partly, and it is worth knowing which buttons are stocked. Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+ each load a ready-made lineup: Netflix gives you Leave the World Behind, The Killer and Extraction 2; Prime Video gives Air, Saltburn and No Hard Feelings; Disney+ gives Elemental, The Little Mermaid and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. All Services pools every built-in title into one wheel. The Hulu, HBO Max, Apple TV+ and Paramount+ buttons are there for lineups you supply yourself - select the service, then type titles into Add Your Movies, because those catalogs are not pre-stocked. Tap Trending Now at any point to reload a full wheel.
How many movies should I put on the wheel?
Eight to twelve works best. Below six the same title keeps surfacing and the spin stops feeling like a real decision; past about fifteen the labels shrink and choice overload creeps back, which is the thing you opened a wheel to escape. This wheel draws a maximum of 20 slices, so if you paste in a 60-title watchlist only the first 20 reach the wheel - the panel underneath shows the first ten and then tells you how many more are queued. With a long list, narrow it by genre or star rating first, then spin what survives. Ten strong candidates beat sixty you half-recognize.
Can I spin my own watchlist instead of the built-in movies?
Yes, and pasting is much faster than adding titles individually. Click Import Watchlist, paste your list with one title per line, and each line joins the lineup. Letterboxd users can export a watchlist to CSV and paste the title column straight in; the same trick works for a copied Netflix My List, a group chat where everyone dropped a suggestion, or the twelve films you keep meaning to get to. Why does my wheel say No movies available?
Three settings cause it. The Movie Mood buttons narrow whatever is already on the wheel instead of reloading it, so tapping Scary and then Funny leaves nothing, since no title is both. The 9+ Stars rating filter is severe on a curated library - only a few titles clear it, mostly classics such as The Shawshank Redemption at 9.3 and The Godfather at 9.2. And a service with no stocked lineup, like Paramount+, starts out empty. The fix is the same in all three cases: click a Quick List button such as Trending Now or All-Time Classics to reload a full wheel, then apply one filter at a time.
How do we stop the wheel picking a movie we have already seen?
Tick Exclude watched movies, then tap any platform or genre control so the wheel rebuilds - the checkbox takes effect on the next filter change. Everything in your Recently Watched list then drops out of the pool. That list fills itself: when the result card appears, pressing Let's Watch files the title under Recently Watched, which holds the last ten movies in your browser. Across a few movie nights that turns the wheel into a queue that slowly empties rather than the same handful of titles cycling forever. If you want a film back in play, remove it from Recently Watched with the x beside it.
Is the wheel fair enough to settle an argument between four people?
Yes, as long as nobody can steer it. Every slice is cut to the same width, so with four titles each has an identical one-in-four chance, and the near-misses where the pointer creeps past someone's favorite are exactly what fair odds look like. The format that works best in practice is veto-then-spin: once the titles are up, each person deletes one film they refuse to sit through using the x next to it in the list, and you spin whatever survives. The veto round absorbs the strong objections, the spin handles the rest, and nobody ends up cast as the person who chose.
Does it only pick new movies, or older ones too?
Both, but they sit in different lists. Trending Now is stocked with 2023 and 2024 films - Dune: Part Two, Civil War, The Fall Guy, Oppenheimer - while All-Time Classics loads a separate wheel of The Shawshank Redemption, The Godfather, Pulp Fiction, Goodfellas, The Matrix and Fight Club. Choose All Services and the two pools spin together, so a 1972 film can beat a 2024 one. The built-in titles are a hand-picked snapshot rather than a live feed from the streaming catalogs, so something released last week will not turn up by itself - type it into Add Your Movies and it joins the wheel straight away.
